How It Started
After a cruise ship visit and an eight-hour tour with a local island guide, Amy and Brian stood on the balcony of the ship as it pulled away from the port and knew their Roatan journey was just beginning – a piece of their hearts would forever be left in Roatan. The great beauty of the island was truly no match to the stunning souls that inhabited it, deeply compelling Amy and Brian to embark on a journey that would fulfill their hearts and the great needs of the Roatan residents.
Founded by Amy Begley and Brian Leichner, the organization is focused on the needs of the island presented by the people of Roatan. Through many visits over several years, Amy and Brian have connected with islanders, community leaders, and other not-for-profit organizations. These connections have helped identify the needs of the people.
Incorporated in January 2021, Friends of Roatan is a 501(c)(3).
